Note: Salesforce has renamed Revenue Lifecycle Management to Revenue Cloud, but CPQ remains under the Revenue Cloud umbrella. This blog reflects those updates as of February 2025.
Overview
Learning Salesforce can feel overwhelming, especially when diving into advanced areas like CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote). Fortunately, Salesforce provides resources to make learning easier through Salesforce Trailhead.
Trailhead, launched in 2014, is an interactive platform with gamified lessons to help you master Salesforce. You can access it on any device. Although learning is free, you need a Trailblazer profile to track progress and earn achievements. A Salesforce Developer Edition (DE) is required, and you can get one for free here. Depending on your goals, creating a new DE may help avoid conflicts with existing configurations.
Key Trailhead Terms
Unit
The smallest learning block. Most Units end with a Challenge.
Challenges
To test your understanding and award Points.
Module
A collection of Units on a specific topic. Each Module includes:
-
-
-
-
- Total Points earned upon completion
- Skill level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced)
- Target roles (e.g., Sales Professionals, Administrators)
- Estimated completion time
- Related learning paths (Trails)
-
-
-
Project
Similar to Modules but focused on giving you hands-on practice within a personal developer environment.
Trail
Details are formatted exactly like Modules; however, each Trail is a single Salesforce-product-oriented, guided pathway featuring multiple Modules and/or Projects.
Trailblazer Rank
If logged in, your progress in Trailhead is measured through Ranks, which require accumulating Points and Badges. The ranking system starts from Scout (0 badges, 0 points) and ends at All-Star Ranger (300 badges, 300K points)
A complete Rank list is available here.
Points and Badges
Completing Units and Challenges earns you points. Finishing a Module grants you a badge. Both contribute to you ranking up.
Tips
You can start Modules at any time in Trails as they are only recommended guides (you can go out of order). Projects may have time constraints depending on the developer environments required of them. If you’re logged in, progression is saved and any Module can be continued or restarted at any time.
